Tim Ressmeyer, Ph.D., PCC

Tim is certified as a Professional Coach (CPC) by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC), and is a Conversational Intelligence® Enhanced Practitioner (C-IQ).

He holds professional memberships in the International Coaching Federation (ICF) where he is accredited at the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) level, and the Institute of Coaching (IOC) at McClean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Affiliate. He is also a certified Master Practitioner (ELI-MP) of the iPEC proprietary assessment tool, the Energy Leadership Index. Tim also serves on the Board of Directors of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County.

Tim brings over 30 years’ experience in corporate, academic and nonprofit positions. For 20 years he held executive roles including Senior Vice President, Group Director at Starcom Worldwide, Senior Vice President at Information Resources, Inc., Vice President at SPSS/IBM, and Vice President at Mintel Group, Ltd. His areas of expertise include consumer research and analytics, change management, product development, and product management.

He is the Founding Partner of Ressmeyer Partners and Happy Hour Coach® which provides life, leadership and executive coaching services globally. As a coach, author, workshop leader, and speaker he works with individuals, leadership teams, and organizations to bring about personal and professional excellence. He is frequently quoted in Forbes, and was a contributor at WGN radio in Chicago.

A native New Yorker, Tim is married, has two grown children and lives in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.

Why I Became A Coach

A few years ago I began the process of re-evaluating what I was really passionate about and what I wanted the next 5, 10, 20 years to look like. Two factors heavily influenced this reflection. First, I realized that my excitement for marketing and consumer research in the corporate arena was not as intense as it once had been. Secondly, as my father fast approached 90-years-old, I became aware that if I have even a little bit of his genetic composition I better plan for the long haul!

I spent a significant amount of time reading, looking inward, talking with people who know me well (and not-so -well), investigating alternative paths (everything from a return to teaching to opening a franchise), and assessing what I really liked best over my 30+ year career.

Three major themes emerged. First, I realized I truly am a social scientist. I love understanding why people do what they do individually and as part of society. Once you uncover the drivers of behavior you can theoretically influence future behavior. This is extremely relevant in politics and marketing – my academic and professional areas of expertise. Secondly, I realized my favorite part of each of the leadership roles I had was developing talent. Whether assembling a team based on the unique gifts of each individual, or helping someone advance because of the skills they had developed, I felt I had done something of value. Finally, connections are important to me. I’ve tried to stay connected to people in my past, as well as to make introductions for those I meet along the way. Networking sounds too impersonal. I prefer to simply say, “good people should know good people.”

Looking at these three themes while taking into account my personal history which includes ups and downs and times of success and being stuck, it was clear that I wanted to move out of corporate and into a full time role that more fully utilizes my core skills and values. Coaching became that avenue for me.

I create a coaching environment that is non-judgmental and allows you to take a breath, be honest about what is and is not working, dream, make a plan for what’s next, and support you as you actively move forward.
